Kyocera was recently named among the top 500 most sustainable companies in the world in 2024 in a list produced by TIME in collaboration with data giant Statista. This latest milestone for Kyocera in its sustainability journey reaffirms our commitment to green innovation and doing what is right for the environment and society.
Our dedication to protecting the planet is reflected in our sustainable product design, spanning from our ECOSYS devices and digitisation software to our commercial printing products, all of which are designed to help companies optimise productivity while reducing their environmental footprint. At Kyocera, we will continue to innovate sustainable solutions to build a greener, brighter future for businesses everywhere.
To determine the top 500 most sustainable companies in the world in 2024, TIME and Statista used a rigorous methodology based on several key criteria. Included in the criteria was compliance with global climate programs, such as the 1.5°C target from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Additionally, TIME and Statista assessed organisations’ Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions reductions from 2021 and 2022, which are the most recent years fully reported. Scope 1 emissions are emissions directly caused by companies, while Scope 2 emissions are produced when a company purchases power. The proportion of renewable energy used in companies’ operations was also a factor.
Kyocera has made several steps toward reducing its carbon footprint and moving toward more sustainable energy sources. In fact, in 2023, two Kyocera plants achieved 100% renewable energy. Kyocera Document Solutions aims to attain 100% renewable energy at all production plants by 2030 by implementing solar power generation facilities and other renewable energy sources. This goal is in accordance with the Paris Agreement, another international standard to which we adhere.
Kyocera has a proud legacy of eco-friendly innovation.”
One of the ways in which Kyocera manages its carbon footprint and helps companies minimise their environmental impact is by designing sustainable hardware that reduces waste and software that encourages companies to use less paper. This sustainable product design is a key characteristic of Kyocera Document Solutions and one of the reasons why businesses choose us to supply their solutions.
Our digitisation software solutions help companies capture data quickly from Kyocera MFPs or their mobile devices and securely transmit digitised documents to the cloud or digital workflows for optimal efficiency. They also facilitate secure storage of digitised documents and remote collaboration, boosting productivity while reducing unnecessary paper usage.
Kyocera’s ECOSYS line is an example of the company’s eco-friendly innovation. These sustainable Kyocera devices are built with long-life parts, switch to sleep mode quickly to conserve energy, and use recycled plastics to reduce waste and minimise their impact. The ECOSYS concept is centred around the idea that devices should provide environmental sustainability (ecology) and economic benefits (economy), helping the end user save money while supporting a cleaner environment for everyone.
Kyocera has also extended its commitment to sustainability to the commercial printing space with the introduction of our 1st inkjet press, the TASKalfa Pro 15000c, into the market. Additionally, in the near future, we will launch the TASKalfa Pro 55000c. Through these products, Kyocera has
demonstrated to the international print community that it is possible to produce vibrant results at high speeds while using eco-friendly technologies.
These devices use water-based inks that contain no harmful chemicals for the environment and operate using few moving parts, reducing instances of breakdown and demand for new plastic parts to be made.
Meanwhile, Kyocera’s sustainable inkjet textile printer FOREARTH uses next to no water, significantly less than digital textile printers that cause water pollution. This helps businesses in the fashion industry manage their impact, while not compromising on the quality of their prints and the soft feel of the fabric. Users do not have to choose between environmental benefits and quality; with Kyocera they get both.
Kyocera has a proud legacy of eco-friendly innovation. Our dedication to the planet has driven our sustainable product design and led TIME and Statista to name us one of the top 500 most sustainable companies in the world in 2024.
