Kyocera began in 1959 in Kyoto, Japan, as a small suburban company specialising in fine ceramics. With just 28 employees and a single factory, resources were limited. From those modest beginnings, we experienced rapid growth and quickly earned a reputation for quality and innovation.
Today, Kyocera stands among the world’s leading manufacturers of high-tech ceramics, components, solar cells, and office equipment – a transformation driven by vision and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
After all, when strong values guide you, progress follows.
Kyocera’s history in Europe began in 1971. At the time, the company was already a successful manufacturer of fine ceramic components in Japan and entered the German market through a joint venture with Feldmühle, a leading producer of technical ceramic components and paper. The goal was to combine expertise and expand into the European sector, focusing on ceramics and substrates for the electronics industry.
Just two years later, in 1973, Kyocera Document Solutions Europe Management B.V. was founded, marking the beginning of a new era for the company in the region.
Today, 50 years later, Kyocera operates across 26 European locations, offering an extensive portfolio of technologies that include electronics, automobiles, semiconductors, optical components, industrial tools, LCDs, touch solutions, printing devices, and solar systems.
Dr Kazuo Inamori faced many challenges when building Kyocera from the ground up. Out of these experiences grew a philosophy that continues to guide us today: that each person should strive to “do the right thing as a human being”.
By acting with integrity and a sense of purpose, we can create innovations that serve both society and the world around us. Over the decades, this spirit has driven countless milestones across Kyocera’s history.
In the early 1990s, our innovative solutions took a major step forward with the creation of the ECOSYS product range – an eco-friendly and economic line of printers and multifunctional printers (MFPs). In 1992, we released the first ECOSYS printer, the ECOSYS FS-1500, setting a new standard for sustainable printing.
In 2020, Kyocera Document Solutions entered the world of production printing with the launch of the TASKalfa Pro 15000c, our first high-speed inkjet printer. Built on decades of expertise, this high-efficiency, low-energy system offers businesses exceptional reliability and return on investment.
Together, these achievements reflect how innovation is part of our history and the key to our future.
Innovation is part of our history and the key to our future.”
As of 2025, Kyocera Document Solutions has 98 group companies and 21,776 employees, evolving into a truly global company.
Our proprietary inks, printheads and high-speed commercial printers continue to set new standards for document management solutions and high-volume printing.
That same commitment to innovation extends beyond printing technologies. In 2025, Kyocera received the Technical Packaging Award at the Japan Packaging Contest, recognising our ongoing progress in developing packaging solutions that reduce environmental impact and improve efficiency.
In Europe and beyond, these innovative solutions are helping businesses create smarter, more secure workspaces.
From those early days in Kyoto, Kyocera’s history has reflected the power of valuesdriven innovation. What began with a handful of employees producing fine ceramic components has evolved into a global organisation delivering innovative solutions that make work smarter, greener and more connected.
As we look ahead, Kyocera remains committed to shaping the future through technology, integrity and the same spirit of innovation that has defined us since 1959.
